A New Life
My name is Elizabeth, and I graduated from Saint Frances Cabrini Academy in 2013. I started attending Cabrini in kindergarten -- a total of nine years at Cabrini. My family joined Saint Wenceslaus Church soon after our move from California to Missouri. From the very beginning, Saint Wenceslaus has been a home to my family. They welcomed us with open arms and really helped us settle into Saint Louis, Missouri and build a new life.
A Simple "Yes"
A simple “yes” can change the world. At least, it has changed mine. Five years ago, I said “yes” when I was offered the position of principal at Saint Frances Cabrini Academy in Saint Louis, Missouri. Little did I know how this would change my life! As a new principal, there was much to learn and a pretty steep learning curve to get past. As I matured in my role as principal, I came to realize what an incredible gift the school community of Saint Frances Cabrini Academy was to me.
We are Many; We are One
Consider an ethnically diverse world with individuals who respect one another and work together toward common goals. Saint Frances Cabrini Academy, an urban grade school in South Saint Louis City, is already a model for a diverse world. Cabrini is a kindergarten through 8th grade school, and it has become an anchor in the community. It is a special place with families from countries such as Eritrea, Ivory Coast, Burma, and Vietnam. Cabrini believes that providing a quality, affordable Catholic education is the most effective way to create opportunities for our children and their families.
Mother Teresa
On Sunday, September 4, at Mass celebrated by Pope Francis in Saint Peter's Square in Rome, Mother Teresa of Calcutta will become Saint Teresa of Calcutta. Her actions speak louder than words, but here are just a few of her jewels of wisdom: "Keep the joy of loving God in your heart and share this joy with all you meet, especially your family. Be holy, let us pray."
Doctors in the Bible
1 Make friends with the doctor, for he is essential to you; God has also established him in his profession. 2 From God the doctor has wisdom, and from the king he receives sustenance. 3 Knowledge makes the doctor distinguished, and gives access to those in authority. 4 God makes the earth yield healing herbs which the prudent should not neglect; 5 was not the water sweetened by a twig, so that all might learn his power? 6 He endows people with knowledge, to glory in his mighty works, 7 through which the doctor eases pain, 8 and the druggist prepares his medicines.
Rosary Champions
The rosary is not just for little old church ladies and pious nuns locked up in convents. It’s been prayed by brave soldiers, young martyrs, brilliant scientists, key political figures, and recently, a hopeless hippie drug addict. But the real question is: why should everyone, including and especially you, pray the rosary? Fr. Donald Calloway, MIC makes a staunch case for this powerful prayer in the most comprehensive book about the rosary. His thoroughly researched book “Champions of the Rosary” traces the origin of the prayer.
Gender is Set by God
Pope Francis strongly criticized gender theory while in Poland for World Youth Day last week, saying it was “terrible” for children to be taught in school that gender is a choice and that such things amount to the destruction of the idea that man is made in God’s image. “Today, in schools, they are teaching this to children — to children! — that everyone can choose their gender,” the Holy Father said.
Purification
36 Then Judas Maccabee and his brothers said, "See, our enemies are crushed; let us go up to cleanse the sanctuary and dedicate it." 37 So all the army assembled and went up to Mount Zion. 38 There they saw the sanctuary desolate, the altar profaned, and the gates burned. In the courts they saw bushes sprung up as in a thicket, or as on one of the mountains. They saw also the chambers of the priests in ruins. 39 Then they tore their clothes and mourned with great lamentation; they sprinkled themselves with ashes 40 and fell face down on the ground.
Perfect in Weakness
12 I must boast; there is nothing to be gained by it, but I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord. 2 I know a man in Christ who 14 years ago was caught up to the third heaven — whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows. 3 And I know that this man was caught up into Paradise — whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows — 4 and he heard things that cannot be told, which man may not utter.
Ten Virgins
The Parable of the Ten Virgins: 1 The kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3 The foolish ones, when taking their lamps, brought no oil with them, 4 but the wise brought flasks of oil with their lamps. 5 Since the bridegroom was long delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep. 6 At midnight, there was a cry, "Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!"
